• Recognizing that students and teachers need and deserve safe, orderly schools and classrooms, the agreement strengthens student behavior management and discipline.
• The agreement gives teachers a voice in developing discipline and behavior management policies and establishes a Student Behavior Management Committee in each school.
• The agreement paves the way for a discipline plan that includes monitoring, resources, enforcement, accountability and proactive intervention.
The new agreement helps ensure that students are taught by the most effective teachers by stressing the importance of accountability, collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders.
• The new agreement calls for expanded opportunities for targeted professional development to help teachers meet the individual needs of each student.
• Professional development will focus on helping teachers:
- keep students engaged in learning,
- establish clear expectations, routines, rules and consequences,
- deemphasize inappropriate behavior by highlighting positive student
choices,
- engage families in an effort to correct inappropriate behavior.
